Design process [4.1.1]

  1. Identify and describe the kind of research Ray Parslow and his team needed to undertake to complete the Fox Studios project.
  2. Outline some of the key skills a graphic designer uses when talking to prospective clients and discuss their importance to the design process.

Role of designers [4.1.3]

  1. Explain the importance of teamwork for a graphic designer.
  2. Explain why an architect might be an important member of Ray's team.
  3. Identify and discuss the different kinds of communication skills that a graphic designer needs.
  4. What is a strategist? Discuss the role of the strategist in a firm like Ray's. Identify why a graphic design firm like the one Ray works for might need a strategist.
  5. Identify the training, study and work-related experiences of Ray Parslow. Plan a possible pathway you could take to become a graphic designer. Design specialisation [4.1.2 and 4.6.2]

  1. Discuss some of the ways that graphic designers address environmental concerns.
  2. Promotional design is a design specialisation in the Information and communication area of study. Examine how the following factors would affect Ray's graphic design project for the Hong Kong six-star hotel:

•  aesthetics
•  socio-cultural
•  cost
•  physical and material properties.

  1. What tools and techniques do Ray's team use to create their designs?
