The following questions are based on the Stage 4 Technology (Mandatory) syllabus. The related outcome is in brackets.

Design process [4.1.1]

  1. Draw a flowchart to describe the design process used by the team at Animal Logic to develop a motion graphic.
  2. What gives Toby the best indication of how successful his final design solution is to his client?

Role of designers [4.1.3]

  1. Identify personal qualities Toby needs to successfully do his job, particularly in the area of management and supervision.
  2. Toby's career has lead him to the point of being a visual effects designer. Identify the major steps in his career prior to working with Animal Logic.
  3. Toby identified writing as a very important skill for visual effects designers. He described a writing task in the design process as writing a treatment. Write a treatment for an aspect of a design you are currently working on. Imagine that you need to communicate the design idea very clearly for someone else.
  4. Visual effects design is an innovative area of design and is rapidly changing. Use the Myfuture web site http://www.myfuture.edu.au to research visual effects design. You may need to use any of the following search terms: graphic design, digital media, motion graphics.
  5. Explain why effective social and communication skills are important for a designer such as Toby.

Design specialisation [4.1.2]

  1. Identify any factors that influence design in Toby's area of design specialisation.
  2. Describe the factors affecting Toby's design for the city of film promotion.

Media technologies [4.3.1]

  1. List some of the techniques Toby uses to gather his ideas and concepts together before deciding on the final look for his design.
  2. Make a list of the specialised media software Toby uses to complete his design solutions and describe what each software package is used for.
  3. Identify and describe the skills Toby needs to use these technologies.
  4. Conduct some Internet research to identify any emerging technologies in Toby's specialised field of visual effects design.
