Australian designers at work is a collaborative project between the Technology Unit, Curriculum K-12 of the NSW Department of Education and Training and the Powerhouse Museum. It has been developed as an online resource for students and teachers of Stage 4 Technology (Mandatory) and was funded from the School to Work Unit of Vocational Learning in Schools Directorate, NSW Department of Education and Training.
The six designers represent three areas of study: built environment, products and information and communication and six different design specialisations: environmental design, interior design, industrial design, promotional design and digital media design.
The student activities are located within each designer profile at Stuff to do . The activities are directly related to Technology (Mandatory) syllabus outcomes and content . Most of these activities relate directly to material in the profile and they can be completed in class time. The tasks developed for the teacher resources section More stuff to do may help teachers extend student experiences or they may provide inspiration for units of work.
The glossary consists of words from the designer profiles that students may find more challenging. Some of the words may not be in a dictionary but are used by designers when they are communicating with each other.
